Watch and listen to Gary Barclay, author of ‘Swimming for Parents’ talk about the different ideas discussed in the second edition of his book.
Hi, I’m Gary Barclay, and I’m here to help you as a swimming parent to support your child to be the best swimmer that they can be.
Over the years, I have received hundreds of questions in regards to different ways of supporting children and helping children to be the best that they can be. I’ve put all those questions together, with responses and produced this book ‘Swimming for Parents’.
‘Swimming for Parents’ is the first of its kind in the world and its been written to help parents of swimmers aged 7 years to 15 years. It answers many of the different questions that parents have in regards to swimming.
In particular, it looks at the benefits of swimming including why your child should be involved in the sport and what the sport can do to help your child to develop. It also looks at you as the swimming parent, what you can do to support your child, how you can help them to learn independence and how you can help them to enjoy the sport and perform at their best.
It talks about the parent/coach relationship, something that is very important in every swimmer’s world and every swimming family. It also looks at the swimmer/parent relationship and what you can do to support your child both at training and at swim meets.
There are many different chapters and many different topics, I am sure you will all really enjoy it.
