Hi
I was wondering what a suitable diet would be for a 11 year swimmer.
I swim 6 times a week morning and evenings so if u could give me some tips that would be great
Thanks
Trevin
ANSWER:
Hi Trevin,
The first thing to do is to ensure that you and your family have a good baseline diet. Your baseline diet is the food that you consume on a day-to-day basis.
Sports nutrition strategies have the most benefit when they are teamed with a well balanced and designed baseline diet.
Information on baseline diet and sports specific nutrition requirements are best summarised in the eBook www.NutritionForSwimmers.com.
The eBook will help you parents to organise the right snacks and meals for you and will also guide you on the right and wrong foods to eat for both training and competition.
A young athlete needs a balanced diet to ensure that they consume the food, nutrients and fluid that they require.
You should be eating breakfast, lunch and dinner meals and I encourage you to consume snacks between meals if you need to. You are also encouraged to eat to your appetite and keep up your fluids.
