As a strong supporter of the Aussie Swim Team I would like to wish all swimmers and coaches a great meet in Barcelona.

The 42-strong Australian Swim Team for the 2013 FINA World Championships has arrived and settled into their training camp in Barcelona with open water competition set to begin this weekend.

According to a Swimming Australia Media Release, the team are making the most of the facilities available to them and training at the Centre d’Alt Rendiment (CAR) a centre for high performance sport in Barcelona, which boasts an indoor and outdoor ten lane pool, spacious gym and dining hall.

Swimming Australia High Performance Director Michael Scott said the group was settling in well to the CAR and will use the next few days to acclimatise before fine-tuning preparations for the championships.

“We have been provided with excellent facilities at CAR and the team is settling in well to the new routine,” Scott said.

With the whole team together, Olympian Ron McKeon and coach Dennis Cotterell presented four new Australian Swim Team members with their swimmer pin number – a number given to each swimmer that has represented Australia on a major, senior, Australian Swim team.

The baby of the team, 14-year-old Chelsea Gubecka, Simon Huitenga, Alexander Graham and Ami Matsuo were presented with pin numbers 729, 730, 731 and 732 respectively.

The 2013 FINA World Championships start this Saturday 20 July with the men’s and women’s open water 5km events.
